Style is an indispensable part in literary works. It is the combination of form and spirit. Literary translation is to transfer the original artistic images in another language, so that the readers of the translation may be inspired, moved and aesthetically entertained in the same way as the original readers. It requires that the translator duplicate the original author's process of artistic creation, and transfers the content and form of the original text in a literary language comparable to the original style, since the main task of literary translation is "likeness in spirit" which lies in the closeness to the stylistic features of the original.Style is the revelation of the thought of the original works. Every writer has his own life experience, personality, thought and emotions, which are revealed through the diction, sentence structures, certain linguistic patterns and deep structures of his works. Stylistics is a discipline meditating the concerns of linguistics on the one hand and literary criticism on the other. Stylistic formal markers in this thesis mainly refer to the grammatical and rhetorical deviations that produce the foregrounding effect in literary works. Therefore the author of this thesis largely depends on norm-deviation approach to locate and analyze the stylistic formal markers.However, traditional translation theories of style are so impressionistic that the essence has rarely been touched. As a result, different translators or translation critics bear in mind different standards as to the gains and losses of a certain translation. Their comments on style are often subjective, abstract, vague or impressionistic. The deficiency of this traditional approach is that it cannot help translators to improve their sensitivity to special effect intended by the original author, and that the critics may pay more attention to giving a general comment on the translators' work without explaining in what particular way a version is better than the other and how the style of the SLT can be successfully reproduced.So a scientific and systematic approach is urgently needed. The author of this thesis tries to elaborate the approaches to stylistic analysis and style transference. The author chooses two Chinese versions of Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities for comparison.
