Twenty characters are explained by Sheng Xun in Shuo Wen Jie Zi .In this paper, we try our best to explore the most meanings of the charaters under the Yan Bu in Shuo Wen Jie Zi.The paper consists of three chapters. In the first chapter,we expound the materials,mission,significance and method of study and intruduce the principle and the basis on judging whether the characters stem from the same origin.In the second chapter,we explore the etymologic meanings of seventy-eight characters under the Yan Bu.Among them forty-six characters are not included in the Chinese Cognate Characters Dictionary by Wang Li,and we put forward new views which are different from the Chinese Cognate Characters Dictionary on some characters .In the third chapter, we illustrate the structure of the meaning of a character and different patterns of the bearing of the semantic meanings of Sheng Fu. In short ,the study is to explore the etymologic meanings,deepen the understanding of the meaning of a character, complement the Chinese Cognate characters Dictionary, analyse the structure of the meaning of a character and explore the Sheng Fu 's function of bearing the semantic meaning .
