The fashion to be a recluse in China's ancient times had a long history, tracing back to Pre-Tang Yao Times. The reclusive poems concernig the hermitic phenomenon or thoughts were originated in the Book of Songs in pre-Qin Dynasty. Up to Han, Wei and Six Dynasty, they gained great development, forming the first culmination in the history of China's poetry. The present thesis is meant to explore the development history, theoretical basis and artistic charactistics of the reclusive poems of Han, Wei and Six Dynasty from pre-Qin Dynasty.The thesis consists of four chapters:Chapter One introduces "a recluse", "seclusion" and "reclusive poetry". A recluse, first, is an intellectual, who secludes himself in the grooves or woods, instead of going into the imperial service, thus he earns this name. His behavior is called seclusion. The poems that deal with aspiration and praise of the reclusive life and portray life, idea, speech and act of a recluse or express the reclusive complex are called reclusive poems.Chapter Two deals with history of development of reclusive poetry. Pre-Qin Dynsty was a time in which the anciet China's reclusive poetry came into being, Weifang. Kaopan, Chenfang. Hengmen were regarded as the works from which the reclusive poems derived.
