Nowdays, it has been a very common practice to use photographs as materials for painting .Not only well-known artists but also major on campus do this to different extent .Now almost every painter has his own camera which provides an important visual exper ience in artistic creation . However , is it possible for all the artistic creation .However , is it possible for all the artists who use photographs in creation to succeed ? The answer is definitely negative .whether an artist can use the photographs successfully and appropriately or not has absolute relation with the creation methods they take . Therefore , this article intends to explore how analytical artists apply the media of photographs in their artistic creation as well as what methods and attitude should be taken in ceation process.This paper gives a profound argumentation for the point with knowledge from different subjects like philosophy aesthetics , psychology as well as the Chinese and foreign art history . Taking the relationship of science and art as a starting point, it analyzes the relation between photographing and painting , the artists closely related to photograhing and painting , the artists closely related to photograhing in history and discusses the historical relationship between photographing and painting by taking the experience of specific artists as examples; then by analyzing the reason why artists use photographs , it shows the functions of photographs in creation ; after thens , by doing case study of Chinese artists and their different ways of using photographs, it analyzes different forms through which photographs are exressed.The last part of this paper concludes systematically the methods to be taken and the problems to be avoided in applying photographs in artistic creation on the basis of personal experience.
