Cant is an impersonal special language phenomenon. According to the study, cant that originated from antiquity and developed to Tang and Song dynasty had turned into the countersign of the literati and the folk cant, which has been unique in their style in China. So, making a study of the cant of Tang and Song dynasty can help to make clear its history about its growing and its characteristic.There are many characters in popular form and interrelated cultural activities recorded in the literati's Note, which is a special text of colloquial style. From the linguistic, there was a large of folk cant and literati countersign the people making and using at then and there. But, at present, researchers explore the language stuff of the notes inadequately. So, this thesis wants to take them as the object of study about the cant in Tang and Song dynasty.This thesis mainly coordinated the stuff of the cant and emphasizes its characters by the means of description, at the same time, paid attention to comparing with the argot of the particular group. This thesis affirmed that the study of cant has the significance of lexicography.There are 5 parts in this thesis. The first part summarized the brief history of Cant. The second part summarized the search about the cant in the notes of Tang and Song dynasty. The third part analyzed the methods making the cant. The fourth part analyzed in the characteristic of the cant, and the fifth part was a brief talk about the problem of the countersign of the literati and lexicography.
