With the cultural mentality of the intellectuals in Dong Wei and Bei Qi dynasties as the research object, this thesis manages to make a realistic study of the psychology of the literators in this period as far as possible into the historical original look, in the light of the ' original ecological studying way ' put forward by Prof. Wang Zhong-ling.This thesis contains three parts: introduction, main text and conclusion. The introduction gives a brief review of the research history, the current state and the research method of the proposition. The main text contains four chapters. The first chapter analyses the obvious anti-civilizing nature of the political environment of this period. The second chapter elaborates the four major psychological features of the Han-nationality intellectuals under the dominance of the royal Gao family, including the psychology of keeping away from the royal family, the lost of their cultural self-pride, the apprehension and worry about their lives and destinies, and their practical and realistic spirit. In the third chapter, the author analyses the main features of noble clans of the period firstly, and then makes a study of three representative clans respectively. The forth chapter discusses the relation between cultural mentality of intellectuals and their literary works. In the conclusion, the author emphasizes that, in the later stage of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, It is the intellectuals of Dong Wei and Bei Qi dynasties who could possibly represent the local literature of the North.
