There appeared a group of excellent women novelists in the British literature of the nineteenth century, such as Jane Austen, Mrs. Gaskell, Charlotte Bronte, Emily Bronte, George Eliot, Anne Bronte and so on. Among them the three Bronte sisters, just like three permanent brilliant stars, are shining in the spacious sky of the world literature.Undoubtedly, Emily Bronte is one who is not to be ignored. And, she has been treated either complimentarily or derogatorily so far in the literary field. The reason for this is perhaps the theme's complexity and the structural singularity shown in her only masterpiece, Wuthering Heights. Some critics think, as a Victorian novelist, Emily Bronte discloses the class struggle of the Victorian Age through critical realism; some say the novel is a love tragedy with the aid of the dramatic technique and romanticism and some consider the novel as a human nature tragedy by means of flashback and symbolism. Following these themes and the corresponding writing styles, the readers often have a kind of gloomy feeling after reading the novel, and consequently find it hard to understand the gifted novelist very well. This thesis aims to re-read Emily Bronte and her Wuthering Heights so as to bring about a better understanding from a fresh perspective and help the readers have a sunny impression. With the relationship between Emily Bronte and nature especially the moors, the author tries to use the psychoanalytic criticism of Sigmund Freud to interpret that Emily Bronte expresses her plain natural philosophical belief through her unique powerful imagination and romantic techniques. Consisting of five parts, the thesis puts more emphasis on the analysis of the relationship between Emily Bronte and nature, and the series of actions of the principal characters created by Emily Bronte through her romantic techniques. Through the careful study on the stormy love between the hero Heathcliff and the heroine Catherine, especially a set ofrevenges of Heathcliff, the thesis attempts to reach its intended conclusion: Emily Bronte expresses her natural world outlook through romantic techniques. She thinks in essence man and nature are identical; both manifest certain spiritual principles; the universe has come a full circle, and after assimilating, the cosmic order has been established once again; the cosmos is developing in a mode of repeated "destruction and re-establishment of the natural harmony". In addition, chapter three "Emily Bronte's Romantic Artistry " further shows that Emily Bronte is a romantic gifted artist from the perspective of her unique writing form.It is because she expresses her plain world outlook through romanticism that Emily Bronte seems remote from the mainstream of the Victorian Age. The author hopes this thesis will be helpful to change some readers' previous prejudices against Wuthering Heights and Emily Bronte, then help them re-appreciate the classic novel and the writer from a renewed viewpoint.
