Self-regulated learning (SRL) refers to the capability and the process of the learning goal fixation, plan formulation, method choice, process supervision and performance evaluation. SRL, as a kind of the required capability, is of great significance in one's lifelong development. Today, the social development and school education have proposed newer and severer requirements on SRL, demanding schools to foster the students 'capability of SRL and make them capable learners so that they could adapt to the scientific and technical age featuring rapid changes. However, the present condition is quite depression. As for the theoretical research of SRL, though it has a long history, great achievements have been made and it is employed in the domestic teaching practice, it is not widely carried out and remains blank especially in the teaching practice of . English reading, to heighten the students' reading level, improve their capability of SRL and make themselves new capable learners.The basic procedures of the research are: firstly, the theoretic knowledge and the successful practice of SRL at home and abroad will be studied and discussed. Meanwhile, the urgency and necessity of the application of SRL in the teaching practice of English reading will be clarified. What's more, the approaches and procedures, which will stimulate students to learn voluntarily in English reading, will be concluded through the theory and the teaching practice. This includes: motives and interests stimulation, learning methods instruction, reading atmosphere creation, goal fixation, leading the students to read the text books themselves and learning in active and mutual-stimulation ways (self-learning supervision, group or community discussion, teachers' explanation purposely, practice and consolidation, class brief summary) and performance evaluation. In this way, approaches and instructions can be provided to the development of the teaching practice of our English reading.Secondly, a poll of high credibility and efficiency concerning on the students' SRLwill be formulated. It makes the students7 learning independence and performance as the evaluation index. Tests on the SRL' s application and results in the leaching practice of English reading will be carried out respectively in four classes in the second grade of junior and senior schools. After using a variety of research ways comprehensively, we have these research results: the students' self-regulated ability in experiment class is higher than that in contrast class obviously; and their English marks are also higher than those who are in the contrast class; there's direct relevance between student's English mark and their self-regulated ability. So we can make this inference; If the learning pattern of SRL can be carried out effectively in the field of English reading, the students' English performance will be improved, their capability of SRL be heightened, solid foundation laid down and intellects of learning capabilities fostered for the future society. It proves that the SRL teaching pattern is practical and effective in the teaching practice of English reading and its development trends will further be made clear.Finally, according to our experiment, we make analysis about the result and the suitable range of self-regulated learning and the problems we met in using it. And we also make prospects about urging the students to read independently, at the same time point out the direction for later research.Therefore, the writer believes that SRL is practical in the teaching practice of English reading and is of value be popularized.
