Explore In The Thought

Kundera holds that the only reason for novel's existence is to find the things that only novels can find. This thing is human's being. The duty for novelist is to explore the being so as not to forget it. Kundera pays more attention to the themes than the other things of his works. Character and scene are nothing but an experimental instrument. Kundera points out emphatically that his works is to ponder over the basic condition of human's being but not the simple reappear of polity-history-society.This paper tries to analyze the themes of Kundera's novels. This paper is divided into three parts. The first part shows some themes of Kundera's works concretely and discusses the relation between different themes and being; On the base of the former discussion the second part studies the effect from ancient European literature and the philosophy of being; The last part considers that as a writer living in post-modern society, Kundera unavoidably brings some modernism factors in his novels.
