Society And Intellectuals' Style In The Later Han Dynasty

The phrase of "intellectuals' style", means the general inclination of the intellectuals' personality, spirit and mind .The research of "intellect -uals' style " is a synthetic engineering .Because it relates to the political situation, the philosophy, the social current of thought arrive at that time, it also relates to the intellectuals themselves, such as their different political and economical station , their different living environ _ment, specially their different mental factors etc.. For this research object which can become an independent course, the researched time of this thesis is from Liu Xiou establishing the political power(25 A.D.) to the yellow headband revolution breaking out(184 A. D.) On the foundation of the elder generation's study, and in order to completely studying the intell _ectuals' style in the Later Han dynasty. The main content of this thesis are devided into three parts . In the first part , we investigate the influen _ce of the social politics on intellectuals' style in the Latter Han dynasty. The investigating of this part is guided by the Marxist philosophy, which is about the relation between the social existence and the social conscious _ness. Through describing the politics of the ex-period in the Later Han dynasty, the queen's relation and eunuch ' autocracy in inside and empress period of the Later Han dynasty , and the variety of officialdom selecting system, we try to investigating the characteristic of intellectuals' style in different period of the Later Han dynasty, we also try to finding the turning reason of intellectuals' style . In the second part, we investigate the basic characteristic of intellectuals' style in inside and empress peri _od of the Later Han dynasty. We regard words and actions in the real life as observed object, at the same time we use the theories form of idea thought to supply proofs of the basic characteristic. The former include the individ _ual case and the description of the public opinion's inclination . The latter generalize the intellectuals' sensitive mindest and complicated style. We can see the inclination of the intellectuals' style from the former, and accurately hold the innate charater of the intellectuals' style from the latter . Through all of this , we will learn the intellectuals' meaning in the environment of particular history. In the third part, we investigate the basicly developing direction of the intellectuals' style .In empress period of the Later Han dynasty , the intellectuals were agitated for the style of emphasizing the morally upright behavior. The eunuchs were agains _ted by them turn from public opinion to the real action. Because the confl _ication was pointed to the imperial government, finally it resulted in suppression of the absolutely imperial power, this was called the disasterof imprisoning intellectuals in history. While political power was killing the intellectuals, it also increasingly neglected by the intellectuals . This part of content is to study the developing inclination of intellect _uals ' style which is from emphasizing through low to despising through learn, from neglecting powerful ministers to becoming friends with the powerful and influential noble family, from supporting the Later Han dynasty to setting up a new dynasty.
