On The Legitimacy Crisis Of Modern Chinese Poetry From The Contextual Perspective

Modern Chinese Poetry is the outcome of the May Fourth New Culture Movement. From its naissance onwards, its legitimacy has been questioned by not only the vast of the new poetry readers (including its critics) but also its practitioners. Drawing upon the contextual perspective, this thesis will focus on an in-depth analysis of the contextual origin of the legitimacy crisis of Modern Chinese Poetry.Seen from its external contexts, legitimacy of Modern Chinese Poetry in its contextual representation rests in two aspects, which will, respectively, get a comprehensive elaboration in Chapter I and Chapter II.For one thing, the legitimacy crisis fully embodies in the form of ideological crisis, that is, the crisis of the poetic concept. In our subconsciousness, the concept of the classical poetry, with its enormous massiness and powerful strength, has become the collective consciousness for us perceiving poetry and the worldview for us approaching to poetry. However, modern Chinese poetry, till now, has been always appearing nebulous and obscure, which consequently makes its critical activity more and more difficult. In this case, communication and reconstruction of the poetic concept of the new poetry has become an important aesthetic mission in the modern era. This thesis will, by referring to the prose, try to unfold its communication and reconstruction.For another thing, with the purpose of understanding the complexity of the legitimacy crisis of Modern Chinese Poetry, we need to jump out of the engrained ideological research and make a further study of the modern Chinese society in which the modern form of Modern Chinese poetry has engendered as well as the modernity context with which Modern Chinese Poetry has had to encountered, to summarize, the foundation of the modern Chinese nation-state and the technological context ensuing from the...
