"Languages, like cultures, are rarely sufficient unto themselves." So, in the course of bilingual communication, the Chinese language is unavoidably influenced by the English language, (and vice versa), which is one of the important factors that account for the development and changes of modern Chinese. Reviewing the historical relationship between English and Chinese, we may find that the successful Europeanization of the Chinese language is accomplished with the aid of modern translation, one of the most severe Europeanized facets being the attribute in Chinese. Owing to the Europeanization at syntactic level, modern Chinese gradually became adaptable to syntactic rules such as "SVO" structure, forming the tendency of concise, logic and close-knit structure, which results in more similarities between English and Chinese. However, as it belongs to a different language family, Chinese has its own characteristics. Contrastive analysis of attributes in English and modern Chinese may help find some regularities of the similarities and differences as well as the inner relationship of attributes in these two languages. On the basis of the contrastive analysis, we should also be careful to treat Europeanization in a dialectical perspective and avoid over-Europeanization in translating attributes while absorbing necessary elements from English to enrich our Chinese.Accordingly, this thesis first introduces the significance and the research methods of the research, and then gives a brief account of its theoretical bases, including contrastive linguistics and translation studies. Having clarified the historical relationship between English and Chinese, we point out the influence of English on Chinese, and illustrate the diachronic Europeanization of Chinese attribute and the background of the Europeanization of the Chinese language.
