Verbal communication is a vital means to hold social relationship together and lubricate interpersonal relationship. Intercultural communication is the exchange between different languages in form. But considering the content, it is the intercourse of different cultural system and cultural forms, aimed at passing cultural content and message. In the course of giving and receiving information, people would like to choose euphemistic speech to achieve different communicative effect. But owing to the different cultures, people often meet with some communicative obstacles, and can not catch the real connotation of a euphemism. This dissertation targets at overcoming some difficulties in communication between different languages, cutting down some misunderstandings in the communication and improving the communicative competence by studying the culture connotation of English euphemism in communication.The significance of studying this subject lies in two aspects. In theory, its breakthrough is combining verbal communication with human being's social acts to analyze the influence of social-cultural factors and psychological factors on the application of English euphemism. It suggests that verbal communication is conditioned by these factors. In practice, this dissertation helps guide the verbal communication, especially the communication between Chinese and English and avoid face-to-face and direct conflict; it helps the communicators grasp and exchange message quickly and correctly.In the process of studying this subject, the thesis is based on the cultural comparison. The combination of theory and examples is the developing device of the thesis. Linguistic synchronic and diachronic features are the thread of study.
