Grammatical Cohesive Devices In Chinese And Uyghur Texts

Text is the ultimate linguistic unit in any activity having to do with communicating in language. It used to simplify the text, avoid repetition and to make the text itself more cohesive as far as structure is concerned, so that it can be regarded as a whole. Since Chinese and Uyghur have their own feature in using reference to create texts, the contrastive study of reference is of great significance to second language teaching and translation practice. The thesis is made up of five parts. Part 1 is the introduction of the thesis. In this part, the necessity, significance of study and the achievements by some scholars are introduced. The data and the study method are also included. Part 2 Concept introduction It gives a brief account of some basic concepts in text linguistics, such as text, cohesion, cohesion and coherence, and the different types of textual comparison. Part 3 is about the definition, purposes and classification of reference. Meanwhile, three criteria for reference are provided for judging the phenomenon of reference. Part 4 Statistical analysis This is the main part of the thesis. First of all, statistical numbers of reference are obtained from close examining of two thousand nine hundred and seventy-seven sentence in eight texts of Chinese and Uyghur.
