Chinese director Wu Yusen (John Woo), has formed the intense individual phantom style in the movie creation, that is, "violence aesthetics". He views violence from a brand-new perspective by cherishing it as a "meaningful expression". His creation profoundly affects violence expression of the modern film circle all over the world. This article elaborates the formation, development and transformation of Wu Yusen's style, "violence aesthetics", from the cultural research angle in the purpose of analyzing the profound aesthetics connotation of Wu Yusen's "violence aesthetics", as well as better understanding the artistic innovation of him and the status he enjoys in the world film making history. The research scope of this article mainly concentrates on his "heroic series" made in Hong Kong and his grand movies made in Hollywood.This article, taking "violence aesthetics" of Wu Yusen's movie as the research object, is divided into four parts. The first part probes into the cultural background of this style from the aspect of the Chinese traditional culture. The second part devoted to violence manifestation with oriental characteristic. The poetic manifestation of "violence aesthetics" cherishes the chivalry spirit and shows the traditional Chinese cultural spirit. The third part inquires the transformation of "violence aesthetics" by stressing the marvelous aspect of his film from the creation and distribution of Hollywood movies. Here in this part, the subject further develops with more rational thinking involved. The fourth part mainly discusses Wu Yusen's aesthetics conception. Here, Wu Yusen stands on the opposite side of the violence and describes it. The paradox image shows his dream for an ideal society without violence. "Violence aesthetics" is the further development of aesthetics and manifests the exposition of human feelings.
