Vision is the leader of the world now. Vision culture was officially proposed in 1913, and until about 1980 was recognized by academic circles. This is the time of visual culture's now and photos replace words to become the king of culture. Vision never has such a high status and never so busy. The research of visual culture focuses on the vision. As the development of science and technology and appearance of media and digital technology, reality constructed by visual image appears fictional meaning. And the meaning of reality become dissolved.Reality no longer true. Between image and it's referred to have cracks and the relationship of them have changed. it is inevitable to touch a paradox of visual culture. The paradox has affected characterization of reality in society. Besides, people are influenced by the cultural alternation more. Both conduct and aesthetic standards or thinking mode are changed. The environment impacts all effects from culture to all existing domestic in it.Design is a visual cultural phenomenon, in an era filled with the design, "non-designed, non-life" has become an era of slogans. Therefore, from a design point of view to explain the paradox between image and reality problem, there is a great practical significance.This paper, from the origins of visual culture, introduced the image's change and the concrete expression of a specific characterization about paradox of visual culture in society. The most important part explains the design under the age of visual culture and the encounter of the utilitarian social activities in the image age. Finally, it is to be demonstrated again after introspecting the age of visual culture from argument of topics, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages and linking to traditional Chinese philosophy. And then the paper looks forward to the future and finds a feasible development of design.
