A Study On The Derivation Of The New Meaning Of Contemporary Chinese Action Verb “Shua” From Cognitive Perspective

As a common action verb,the derivation of the new meaning of “shua” is particularly outstanding.We consider that bodily experience is base of the derivation and expansion of the new meaning.This experience can be characterized as image schemas with the mechanism of metaphor and metonymy.This article attempts to use semantic theory to analysis the internal semantic structures and characteristics of the derivative meanings of the verb“shua”.It mainly uses the prototype theory,image schema theory,metaphor and metonymy theory of Cognitive Linguistics to explore the relationship between the derivative meanings and the literary meanings and the derivative paths of new meanings.It also investigate the other motivations from different levels and try to detailed and in-depth analysis this derivative phenomenon.Thus,we structure semantic network of Contemporary Chinese action verb “shua” and reveal the cognitive rules behind the derivative phenomenon.The first chapter is the preface,this part mainly introduces the origin of selecting the topic,the research significance,the main theories,the methods,the research scope and the source corpus.In addition,we summarize and review the relative researches.We mainly comment the researches about“shua”,the new meanings of old words and polysemy.Through understanding the predecessors' research results and the research thought,it can help us establish the foothold and direction of this paper.The second chapter mainly analyses the the literary meanings and the derivative phenomenon.For further analysing of the semantic derivative phenomenon of“shua”,we must investigate and confirm its literary meanings and present many new derivative meanings through simulating the prototype features and image schemas.On this basis,we investigate the classification and usage in the corpus of these new meanings,and then we expound many internal semantic characteristics of these new meanings and the performance in the process of the derivation of new meaning.The third chapter mainly explores the paths and cognitive motivation of the new meaning derivation.In cognitive perspective,combining with the mechanism of metaphor,metonymy,we explore the cognitive path of every new meaning and reveal itscognitive motivation of the semantic derivation.Eventually,we structure its system of these new meanings and the network of semantic derivation.The fourth chapter discusses the different motivations of the derivation of new meaning of “shua”.The analysis of this part mainly contains two levels-internal motivation and external motivation.Internal motivation includes the effect of“absorption of context”and the internal restriction of the economic principle of language.External motivation mainly includes the pragmatic need of network and the cognitive and psychological reasons.
