Wen Tingyun was an eminent poet in the late Tang Dynasty, and he was also the originator of the ci-verse. Since 1980's, researches about Wen Tingyun put emphases on his life experience and his ci. The purpose of this dissertation is to make a comment on Wen Tingyun himself and research into the various aesthetic genre of his poems. First, in combination with the social background of the late Tang Dynasty, give a just appraisal on the poet; Second, there were three different genre in his poems. When he acted as an orthodox man, his poems were full of miserable, suffering sentimental and indignation; When he portrayed the natural scenery ,his poems'gerne was fresh and dew ;when he depicted his ideal beautiful dreams, he was a pure poet, "art for art's sake".
