Books of Anecdotes, a special Korean essay form, came from a prose type, which was popular from late 12th century to early 13th century. People began to concern themselves about it and confirm it since Shizu Dynasty. Soon these anecdotes about men literati and officialdom came to their prosperity. 「Yong Jae Chong Hwa」 was one of the most important representatives of these anecdotes.「Yong Jae Chong Hwa」 was written by Chengxian, an early Korean writer. It was called A Complete Volume of Korean anecdotes. Shichang, son of Chengxian and some of his friends published it in1525. The stories in this book were about the Imperial House, literati and officialdom, artists, musicians, etc, including the descriptions about Korean custom, geography, rules, music, jokeeverything about Korean Culture.Scholars began to study 「Yong Jae Chong Hwa」 very early. The research work varied for its complexity. Most of them were about jokes. This paper intends to discuss it in a comparative waycompare it with something similar in Chinese literature. In order to broaden our vision, we shouldnt study it only in Korean literature, but also try to have a comprehensive study, relating it to something similar in Chinese literature.This paper tries to start with the concept of Books of Anecdotes, then tries to discuss its development. The conclusion is that Korean literature and Chinese literature closely related each other. The writer divided 「Yong Jae Chong Hw a」 into four types, compared each of them with its counterpart in Chinese literature. Chengxians humorous language made people morally educated whileheartedly amused. Many of the stories were originated from China, but revised, not total imitated. This shows that Chengxian was a broad-minded realist.It is extremely necessary to study rYong Jae Chong Hwaj carefully because of its variety and complexity.
