Internet Addiction Disorder(IAD) of College Students became an increasingly outstanding social problem, and one of hot spots in higher education research all over the world.To study the effect of counseling for the prevention and treatment of IAD for providing evidence to popularize the therapy in future, We had comprehended the elementary knowledge of IAD and analyzed the causes of college students' IAD, investigated the occur rate of IAD in Guangdong Medical College (GDMC), the personality features and self-conscious symptom of college students with IAD, carried respectively out colony counseling to all college students and individual covinseling to college students with IAD, observed the changes of the occur rate of IAD, the personality features and self-conscious symptom of college students with IAD before and after counseling, nailed down the effect of counseling for the colony prevention and individual treatment of IAD.October in 2004, we investigated the occur rate of IAD about 803 students( in 1-4 grades) of Guangdong Medical College (GDMC ) with Young's scale.The results showed that : the occur rate of IAD in GDMC was 9.59%, among the male students(11.37%) significantly higher than that Among thef emale students(6.34% )( P<0.05). There was not significantly differences among 1-4 grades(p>0.05). These students with IAD had higher or less scores of those factors in Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF) and Symptom Check List 90 (SCL-90) than students without IAD (p<0.05 or p<0.01).we would know these students with IAD had imperfect positive personality features, enganced negative Personality feature and more self-conscious symptom,need to treat counseling therapy.May in 2005,we apply positive psychology in colony counseling for 6 minthsto all college students, investigated the occur rate of IAD> the personality features and self-conscious symptom of college students with IAD after counseling. The results showed that : The rate of IAD was 7.72% in GDMC in 2005, among the male students(9.16%) significantly higher than that among the female students (4.96%)(PO.05). After colony counseling of 6 minths ,these 2 groups of the students with IAD in 2004 and in 2005 had significantly different scores of those factors in 16PF and SCL-90(p<0.05 or p<0.01). we would know these students with IAD in 2005 had enganced positive Personality features > imperfect negative personality feature and less self-conscious symptom after colony counseling.This showed counseling had the effect of the colony prevention of IAD.At the corresponding period, we apply Congnitive-Behavior therapy in individual counseling for 6 minths to 38 students with IAD selected randomly from those diagnosed in 2004, investigated the personality features and self-conscious symptom of college students with IAD after counseling. The results showed that : These 2 groups of the students with IAD in 2004 and in 2005 had significantly different scores of those factors in 16PF and SCL-90 after individual counseling of 6 minths (p<0.05 or p<0.01). we would know these students with IAD had enganced positive personality features > imperfect negative personality feature and less self-conscious symptom after individual counseling. This showed counseling had the effect of the individual treatment of IAD.So, we would draw the conclusion : To college students with IAD, counselinghad some effect in colony prevention and individual treatment, could reduce the occur rate of IAD, maked intrenet to be a helpful medium to increase study efficiency and enrich college life.Two innovative point in our study : 1. The combine study of the colony prevention and individual treatment of IAD; 2. We apply positive psychology in colony counseling for all college students, to show the colony prevention of IAD .No interrelated report of these were noted...
