Task-based language teaching approach, combining the advantages of both traditional and modern language teaching theories, allows students to learn and use the language by means of a series of interactive tasks, emphasizing communicative activities which make the aims of study as a guide in real situations. During the learning process, the emphases are on the understanding of the meaning rather than the understanding of learning style. Learning from "doing-it" is the key factor to learn language. The interactive learning styles are promoted, i.e. learning from experiencing, practicing, participating, communicating and co-operating. Students can learn language through using language, finding and solving problems, understanding language, hence sensing and experiencing the success of learning during fulfilling tasks.Since the 1980s, the approach of TBLT has become more and more popular in Europe, America and Australia. In China, it was advocated for the first time in the newly issued curriculum to be put into use in middle school English classrooms. Methodological reforms concerned with TBLT's practical pilots have been carried out widely in our country. However, few researches on TBLT have been done in English class of Higher Vocational-technical College. Therefore, in this thesis, the author studies many theories on TBLT and its application in English teaching. On the other hand, an experiment, aimed at trying to find a new way in HVTC English teaching, has been conducted in Binzhou Vocational College for sixteen weeks. Two natural classes of first-grade students of Economic Management Department were involved, who entered the school in 2004. The results of this experiment are as follows: TBLT can help to improve the HVTC students' English competence as well as English grades;fulfilling this approach can arouse the HVTC students' interest in English learning and influence their attitude towards English learning and then promote their self-confidence.
