| The quality of the exercises could directly reflect the merits of a textbook, and as so it has direct impact on the quality of teaching. Over recent years, there is a substantial increase in the number of domestic studies on exercises in Teaching Chinese as A Second Language materials; however, the majority of them are targeting in entry and intermediate level Chinese textbooks. In contrast, exercises in advanced Chinese textbooks have been receiving less attention from scholars. In this extent, it is suggested that there is yet more room for further research.Exercises in “An Intensive Reading Course of Advanced Chinese” I and II volume were selected as our research object. As for textbook assessment, we collected data and conducted analysis in aspect of exercise’s quantity, exercise’s classifications, exercise’s contents and such, and by then summarized the pros and cons of the textbook in term of exercise design. From students’ standpoint, by understanding what they demand from a textbook, we compared and discussed the connection between the exercises in the advanced HSK test and such with same or similar content in our selected textbook. Lastly, some suggestions were made based on our findings. Such findings and suggestions are expected to be useful for the textbook itself as well as for other to-be-published teaching materials. |
