This paper focuses on the different roles of Liang Qi-chao in the front and back of the May Fourth New Culture Movement in the aspect of language , thought and person which bounded by traveling over Europe in 1919. The paper also wants to reveal some recondite characters beyond words by talking about his miserable and pleasant destiny respectively as the person conceiving and exiled. Though Liang Qi-chao has been denounced as "changeable", he changed his mind for the sake of his surroundings whose aim was constant. His persevering study and ultimate pursuit of Chinese culture development direction accorded with historical form-rationality, but he could not be accepted and then exiled by the age of its value-rationality at that time. What is new and what is old can be the revolutionary strategy in the certain year, but can not be the only criterion to judge culture value, and much more can not be the moral measurement for "advance" or "less advance" of a certain character. Between the "to be" and the "be", the "in" and the "out" of Liang Qi-chao, we can find the space to ask questions about the history.
