Rationality Of Liang Shuming’s Thought

Liang Shuming is one of the most famous thinkers in modern China, which is believed to be the first person to the group of modern new confucianism. Liang Shuming pay his attention to life and social problems, and always stick to the principle of "independent thinking, be the same outside and inside" attitude of doing scholarly research. Due to the attitude to culture and life and after several changes, he eventually turned into Confucianism, and made practice to achieve his ideal in his live. In the final shape of Liang Shuming’s idea, psychology plays a very important role,"Rationality" also based on psychology."Rationality" is from Liang Shuming’s understanding of the process of human psychological development, and looks as the ultimate direction of human understanding development. Also in his view,"Rationality" is the essence of Confucian moral philosophy and plays a fundamental role. So Liang Shuming used it to distinguish from the "Reason" culture in West and "Rationality" culture in China, and made connection with Confucian moral philosophy and science, also seek legal status for the Confucian moral philosophy. Besides,"Rationality" is a supplement and perfection for the early "three kinds of cultures". The early "three kinds of cultures" was a creative orientation for Confucian moral philosophy, but many scholars criticized for its subjectivity. Liang Shuming also realized that, so on the one hand, he continued to find modern scientific knowledge for support, on the other hand, continued to practiced and tried to make "three kinds of cultures" more perfect. Finally based on the psychology, Liang Shuming found "Rationality" so made reconstruction of the Confucian moral philosophy. Liang Shuming finally completed his Confucian moral philosophy as the establishment of "Rationality", and the way that based on psychology to reconstruct Confucian moral philosophy is unique in the modern new-confucianism. This dissertation aims are to illustrate that:(1)Deeply influenced by the psychology process of the formation of Liang Shuming thought, Liang Shuming himself has consciously absorb the research results of Psychology;(2)Liang Shuming eventually formed the moral philosophy of "rationality" as the main concept,and this concept is from psychology;(3)Liang Shuming reconstruction of Confucian moral philosophy is different from Mou Zongsan’s moral metaphysics way.
