In the history of China's ancient literature, Yuxin was unanimously regarded as the culmination of Six Dynasties' literature in the intellectual circle, but the study on Yuxin from the cultural level and the new angle of view is to be developed. This essay vastly inspects Yuxin from the cultural perspective and deeply probes into his cultural value orientation in creation on the basis of the previous studies. Yuxin's cultural value orientation in creation is very rich and complicated: his special family's social standing and office promotion;his experiences of being separated by war;his going through from South to North. All these and his abundant cultural accumulation make his works to be profound in cultural connotation and reveal his diverse cultural value orientations. This essay focuses on the three chapters.Chapter I. the combination of Confucianism and Taoism 1. the intellectual background of Yuxin's acceptation of Confucianism. 2. Confucianist cultural spirit in Yuxin's creation, i. Yuxin's sense of historical mission, realistic responsibility and his consciousness of lifetime achievements, ii. his esteem for Confucianist ethics thought, iii. the impact of Confucianism "argument between Yi and Xia" on Yuxin. 3. Yuxin's esteem for Taoist culture. 4. the Taoist elements in Yuxin's thought, i. the strong awareness of life. ii. the pursuit of free and easy personality and character iii. Taoism's impact on Yuxin.Chapter II. the infiltration of elegance and vulgarity. 1. the connotationof "elegance" and "vulgarity". 2. the elegant cultural orientation in Yuxin's creation, i. to be elegant in pursuit of the text value, ii. to possess the elegant feelings of the nobles and literati and officialdom, iii. to properly write various styles of works. 3. Yuxin's absorption of vulgarity on the premise of elegance, i. Yuxin's feeling orientation for the worldly people in his creation, ii. Yuxin's allusion to elegance out of vulgarity and combination of both in his prose and poetry, iii. to make use of the ballads from South and North Dynasties and put them into elegance from vulgarity. Chapter III. the perfect harmony of South and North. 1. the historical background of the differences between South and North. 2. the cultural significance of Yuxin's entry to North, i. the dissemination of the South advanced culture, ii. the acceptation of the North cultural environment and concepts. 3. the cultural blending embodiment of South and North in Yuxin's creation.
