By studying and summarizing the literatures about life events, coping styles and negativeemotion among college students both domestic and overseas, asking 439 college students inChangchun to complete questionnaires in order to know the level of their mental health andinvestigate the relationship of life events, coping stlyes and negative emotion. The study usedT test, One-Way ANOVA, Correlate analysis and Regression analysis. The result showed that:1. Learning stress, healthy adjustment and relationship are primary life events to collegestudents. There is no significant difference between male and female, but the differenceamong grades is significant. As the grade rising, the learning stress is reducing. Thestudents in grade two suffered the most stress and the students in grade four suffered theleast.2. In general, the college students' coping styles are positive. There is no significantdifference between male and female, but the difference among grades is significant. Thestudents in grade four are more mature than the other three grades when coping with lifeevents, they scored lowest in self-abuse, fantasy and retreat. The students in grade two andin grade three don't show more mature than grade one, they scored more than grade oneon the negative dimention. The freshmen needed more help than the other three grades.3. Among the students' investigation, 11.2 percent of them showed anxiety symptom, and72.1 percent showed depression symptom.4. Life events were found have significant positive correlation with anxiety. Except problemsolving, all other five coping way factors are significantly correlated with anxiety. Thedepression and anxiety are also positively correlated. However, none of the correlationsbetween depression and life events and all the coping way factors reached significantstatistical level.5. As the medial factor between life events and anxiety, the coping way, as well as life eventscan both influence anxiety, and the effect is significant.
