Self-identity was set up by Erik.H.Erikson, the psychologist of neopsychoanalytic school of America. It has great influence on one's personality and healthy growth. This study investigated the developmental characteristic of self-identity of private college students from the angle of grade, gender, and the source of urban or rural. It also investigated the relationship among parenting style, self-esteem and self-identity.In this study, about 861 private college students were investigated, using Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran(EMBU), the Self-esteem Scale, Self-identity State Scale of College Student. The main conclusions are as follows:1. There is significant difference among grades in the development of private college students' self-identity. The developmental trend of different identity is different. The developmental trend of the same identity state is different in total, ideological, interpersonal domain. Most of the private college students are in the diffusion identity, and moratorium identity, foreclosure identity and achievement identity in turn. This indicates that the development of private college students' self-identity is impure.2. There is no significant difference between male and female in total and ideological domain. In interpersonal domain, male score higher than female in moratorium identity and achievement identity. There is no significant difference between male and female in diffusion identity and foreclosure identity.3. There is no significant difference between urban students' identity and rural students' identity in total and ideological domain. In interpersonal domain, the girls in grade one who are from urban score higher than those who are from rural, but there is no significant difference between urban and rural in foreclosure identity, moratorium identity and achievement identity.4. Different parenting style, self-esteem have different influence on different self-identity state, including total, ideological and interpersonal domain. In total domain, Mother's warmth and understanding, father's refusal and denial have both direct and indirect influence on achievement identity. Mother's warmth and understanding has both direct and indirect influence on diffusion identity. Mother's warmth and understanding, father's overprotectionhave both direct and indirect influence on foreclosure identity. In ideological domain, mother's warmth and understanding has both direct and indirect influence on diffusion identity. Father's overprotection has both direct and indirect influence on foreclosure identity, hi interpersonal domain, mother's warmth and understanding, father's refusal and denial have both direct and indirect influence on achievement identity. Mother's warmth and understanding, father's overprotection have both direct and indirect influence on foreclosure identity.
