| Adolescent social development is a hot topic in developmental psychology and social psychology.Among them,the relationship between narcissistic personality and aggressive behavior is the focus of the research.Narcissistic Personality is a continuum common in the general population.It is also a narcissistic,vulnerable and highly dependent personality variable on self-evaluation.People with narcissistic personality tendencies almost always think that they are privileged and want to take advantage of and control others.Aggressive behavior is a kind of common social behavior that accompanies an individual throughout his or her life.It refers to the behaviors that intentionally hurt others or objects.It is a kind of undesirable social behavior,and it is commonly seen in adolescents.In addition to the lasting negative impact on the attacker himself,the aggressive behavior will also have a lingering impact on the victim both physically and psychologically,resulting in physical and mental development,social integration and self-development difficulties for both parties.With regard to the problem of difficulties in self-development,developmental psychology tries to answer the core content of self-esteem which affects self-development.It is for this reason that studies on the relationship between self-development and aggressive behavior begin to discuss that low self-esteem leads to the gradual transition of aggressive behavior to narcissistic personality,which is an important factor affecting aggressive behavior,and self-esteem can play a regulating or buffering role between narcissistic personality and aggressive behavior.According to the microsystem theory of American psychologist Brownian Brunner’s ecosystem theory,family environment plays a direct role in the development of children and adolescents,and the evaluation Style of parents’Parenting Style subtly influences the formation of narcissistic personality.Parenting style refers to a relatively stable behavior pattern that parents show in raising and educating their children,which is stable across time and situation.As a factor of family education in the early development of children and adolescents,especially the attitude,way and right and wrong of parents’evaluation of children will accompany their development and lay a imprint on their later personality formation.However,for a long time,developmental psychology has paid little attention to this problem.This study includes the parental education style and explores it as a problem.On the one hand,it tries to understand the relationship between narcissistic personality and aggressive behavior in college students and its characteristics.On the other hand,the relationship between aggressive behaviors of narcissistic college students and their characteristics and parenting style is discussed.More importantly,the role of narcissistic personality in the relationship between parenting style and passive aggressive behavior and parenting style and active aggressive behavior is reviewed.This not only provides research data support for the field of ego and aggressive behavior,but also provides a prediction effect on the family factors of the formation of aggressive behavior and narcissistic personality,and thus provides effective intervention means for the healthy development of children and adolescents.In this study,college students were tested through questionnaire and experiment for Narcissistic Personality Inventory(NPI)in China.Firstly,we tested the applicability of NPI-13 in Chinese culture.Secondly,it discusses the relationship between narcissistic personality and aggressive behavior of college students and its characteristics,including internal characteristics and external characteristics,starting from passive aggressive behavior and active aggressive behavior respectively.Thirdly,the moderating effect of self-esteem on narcissistic personality and aggressive behavior of college students was discussed.Fourth,explore the mediating role of narcissistic personality between parenting style and aggressive behavior.This study consists of 1 preliminary study and 5 formal studies as follows:The pilot study verified the applicability of NPI-13 in Chinese college students.According to exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis,NPI-13includes three dimensions:4 questions from the sense of Entitlement/Exploitativeness dimension,5 questions from the Grandiose Exhibitionism dimension,and 4 questions from the Leadership/Authority dimension.The model was well fitted:χ2/df=2.004,CFI=0.956,TLI=0.918,RMSEA=0.069,SRMR=0.034;The reliability analysis showed that the total table reliability coefficient was 0.856,and the retest reliability was 0.833.In Study 1,we explored the relationship between narcissistic personality,proactive aggressive behavior and reactive aggressive behavior in college students.According to regression analysis and correlation analysis,the results showed that narcissistic personality of college students was positively correlated with proactive aggressive behavior(r=0.29)and reactive aggressive behavior(r=0.32).The narcissistic personality of college students alone can explain 10.8%proactive aggressive behavior and 13.7%reactive aggressive behavior.In Study 2,a completely random experimental design of 2(situation:threat situation group and control group)×2(subject:high narcissism group and low narcissism group)was used to investigate the effect of different levels of narcissistic personality on reactive aggressive behavior in different situations;A mixed experimental design of 3(reward level:5 yuan,10 yuan and 15 yuan)×2(subject:high narcissism group and low narcissism group)was used to explore the effect of different levels of narcissistic personality on proactive aggressive behavior under different reward conditions.The results showed that in reactive aggressive behavior,narcissistic personality had a significant interaction with the situation(F=6.64).Further simple effect analysis showed that in the threatening situation,the score of reactive aggressive behavior of college students with high narcissistic personality was significantly higher than that of college students with low narcissistic personality(F(1,88)=27.37).In the proactive aggressive behavior,the interaction between narcissistic personality and reward level was not significant(F=0.28),and the main effect of narcissistic personality was significant.The score of proactive aggressive behavior of college students with high narcissistic personality was significantly higher than that of college students with low narcissistic personality.The main effect of reward level is significant.Through multiple comparison,the score of proactive aggressive behavior of college students with low reward condition is significantly lower than that of college students with medium reward condition and high reward condition,while the score of proactive aggressive behavior of college students with high reward condition is extremely significantly higher than that of college students with medium reward condition.In study 3,the moderating role of trait self-esteem on college students’narcissistic personality and reactive aggressive behavior and the moderating role of trait self-esteem on college students’narcissistic personality and proactive aggressive behavior were investigated by questionnaire.The results showed that trait self-esteem moderated the relationship between narcissistic personality and reactive aggressive behavior(β=0.07).Simple slope analysis showed that narcissistic personality moderated reactive aggressive behavior significantly when trait self-esteem was low(bsimple=0.33).Trait self-esteem moderated the relationship between narcissistic personality and proactive aggressive behavior(β=-0.14).Simple slope analysis showed that narcissistic personality moderated the proactive aggressive behavior significantly when trait self-esteem was low(bsimple=0.33).In study 4,on the basis of Study 3.A mixed experimental design of 2(state self-esteem:experimental group and control group)×2(measurement time:pretest and posttest)was adopted;A mixed experimental design of 2(state self-esteem:experimental group and control group)×2(measurement time:pretest and posttest)was used to conduct state self-esteem for high narcissistic college student proactive aggressive behavior under the condition of reward.The results showed that in reactive aggressive behavior,the interaction between measured time and state self-esteem was significant(F=14.41).Further simple effect analysis showed that in the experimental group,the score of reactive aggressive behavior measured before the experiment was significantly higher than that measured after the experiment(F(1,94)=19.21).In the proactive aggressive behavior,the interaction between measured time and state self-esteem was significant(F=5.85).Further simple effect analysis showed that in the experimental group,the score of proactive aggressive behavior in pre-test was significantly higher than that in post-test(F(1,94)=7.23).In study 5,the mediating role of narcissistic personality on parenting style and reactive aggressive behavior and the mediating role of narcissistic personality on parenting style and proactive aggressive behavior were investigated.The results showed that narcissistic personality had a significant mediating effect between parenting style and aggressive behavior in both reactive and proactive aggressive behaviors,and the confidence interval of mediating effect did not contain 0.The study reached the following conclusions:(1)NPI-13 has good applicability in Chinese college students;(2)The narcissistic personality of college students has a positive predictive effect on both proactive and reactive aggressive behavior,that is,the higher the narcissistic personality tendency,the more proactive aggressive behavior and reactive aggressive behavior;(3)In the threatening situation,reactive aggressive behavior of college students increased;The higher the reward level,the more proactive aggressive the college students were.In the threatening situation,the college students with high narcissistic personality took more reactive aggressive behaviors.(4)Trait self-esteem moderated the relationship between narcissistic personality and proactive aggressive behavior and between narcissistic personality and reactive aggressive behavior.Under low trait self-esteem,high narcissistic college students’proactive and reactive aggressive behaviors increased.(5)State self-esteem plays a buffer role in both proactive and reactive aggressive behaviors of college students with high narcissistic personality.The aggressive behavior of college students with high narcissistic personality decreased obviously,whether it was proactive aggressive behavior or reactive aggressive behavior.(6)Narcissistic personality mediates the relationship between parenting style and reactive aggressive behavior and between parenting style and proactive aggressive behavior.Narcissistic personality plays a complete mediating role in the relationship between maternal negative parenting style and aggressive behavior,while narcissistic personality plays a partial mediating role in other conditions.Maternal negative parenting style indirectly affects proactive aggressive behavior through narcissistic personality;Other parenting styles can influence both aggressive behaviors directly and indirectly through narcissistic personality. |
