It was not until the 17th century that modern science had taken its initial shape. From then on, scientific research with the guidance of research methodologies entered a booming era. Various methodologies and research models, such as positivism, humanism, empiricism, qualitative research and quantitative research, have been extensively applied in disciplines of modern physics, modern chemistry, modern biology as well as sociology. The objective, empirical and scientific research methodologies have led to clearer thinking, more rational data collection and enhanced research process, all of which have promoted the modern research a closer understanding of truth. With the influence of scientific research in the western world, all disciplines in China have been actively strengthening their awareness of methodologies and, meanwhile, stepping up their efforts in combining methodologies with themselves. For example, pedagogy, applied linguistics and market research have all carried out discussions on methodologies in light of their respective characteristics. In such a situation, it is only natural to say that we are in urgent need to discuss methodologies in translation studies and promote the methodological building in translation studies.Qualitative and Quantitative research have continuously proved themselves as two important methods in the methodological system and, meanwhile, have been widely applied in sociology and various humanities with their well-grounded research justifications, systemized research process as well as scientific analytic tools. But how is their application in translation studies? And whether researchers in translation studies have actively drawn on these two well-grounded methods to help their research?
