A Quantitative And Qualitative Study On Influencing Factors Of Suicide Ideation Among Undergraduates

Objective:To evaluate the prevalence of suicide ideation among undergraduates,to identify and screen the people at high risk for suicide ideation,and also to explore influential factors,so as to provide a scientific basis for the identification and prediction and intervention of suicide.Method:4 333 undergraduates from the trial school were investigated with stratified cluster random sampling.The people at high risk for suicide ideation were screened with Beck Depression Inventory.Factors associated with suicidal ideation were analyzed with x~2test,t test,Nonparametric Tests,logistic regression.In-depth interviews were conducted with the people at high risk for suicide ideation so as to understand the causes of suicide ideation.Results:â‘ In the past week,there were 260 undergraduates had suicide ideation;and the incidence of suicidal ideation was 7.4%;there were 159 men(9.2%) and 98 women(5.6%),the sex of 3 person was unknown.â‘¡Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that as following were factors associated with suicidal ideation among undergraduates,while the cost of living from their parents(OR=0.48,P=0.03),positive coping(OR=0.61,P=0.02),dealing with the suicidal behavior actively(OR=0.26,P=0.00) were the protective factors of suicidal ideation,and the punished factors(OR=1.10,P=0.00),mild depression(OR=3.54,P= 0.00),moderate depression(OR=11.58,P=0.000) and severe depression(OR=124.587,p= 0.000) were the risk factors.â‘¢The relative importance of the 7 main categories of causes based on the proportional method and the weighting method were as follows:family relations(50.00% proportion method,24.54%weighting method),interpersonal(58.33%,10.84%),academic pressure(49.99%,14.16%),future pressures(41.67%,8.47%),economic pressure(25.00%,7.17 %),health status(16.99%,8.34%) and the impact of the media(8.33%,6.67%).Conclusion:The cost of living from the parents,dealing with the suicidal behavior actively,the punishment factors,mild depression,moderate depression and severe depression is the influencing factors of suicide ideation.The reasons of suicidal ideation among undergraduates were the interaction between outside factors and internal factors.The outside factors were family relationships,academic pressure,interpersonal relationships,economic pressure,health status and the impact of the media.Internal factors were the deviation of understanding and coping with problem.
