The yangko opera in the thirties of last century is the embryonic form of the development of national vocal music, later the immense success of "white hair woman" marks real beginning of national vocal music in China. It is a new era of China's national vocal music's development. A large number of new operas, new folk songs successively in the fifties and sixties of corresponding period were created and compiled and performed, it opens a situation of "lets a hundred flowers blossom, lets a hundred schools contend" in the national vocal music. A generation of national singers represented by Guo Lanying, Wang Kun, et al. has emerged. After liberation, the education circle of music has begun to study and teach the national vocal music, and the national opera class, vocal music class has established. In the seventies and the eighties of the last century, the music universities and colleges in all parts of the country have offered the specialty of the national vocal music in succession too and have set up the teaching and research room of national vocal music. The development of the national vocal music begins to take shape; it becomes a vocal music school that can exist independently compared with bel canto.About the developmental problem of the national vocal music, the free discussion of "whether the western singing style or the native singing style is good?" took place in the fifties, i.e. improve on the basis of native throat or improve on the basis of voice trained in Western style of singing. With the impact on national vocal music affected by bel canto being larger and larger, phenomenon of simplifying of "a thousand people are one throat, a thousand people are the same" has appeared in the development of the national vocal music at the present stage.
