The name of "Guozi" came from Zhou Dynasty and the people took officials as teachers in Qin Dynasty. It was called"Taixue"in Han Dynasty. Imperial school was established in Jin Dynasty. Topmost school was called Imperial College in Sui Dynasty and Tang Dynasty. It was known as Imperial school during Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty. It was renamed Imperial College in Ming Dynasty.As the topmost school, Imperial College was established at the beginning of Ming Dynasty and got the favored treatment. It played an important role in nurturing talent and occupied an important position in the education system of Ming Dynasty. This article takes Imperial College of Ming Dynasty as the research object, reviews all official education before Ming Dynasty, narrates an evolvement of the Imperial College which was from resplendence to enervation, analyzes the teachers and students in Imperial College and their teaching, study, inspection, familiarization exercise and so on. The paper summarizes the sacrificial offering in Imperial College Confucian temple, emperor visiting Imperial College and activities of printing books and so on. Basis of the above studies, this article estimates the function of Imperial College in Ming Dynasty.This article includes five parts: The first part summarizes all official education before Ming Dynasty; The second part narrates Imperial College's initial establishment, flourish and deterioration in Ming Dynasty; The third part analyzes the teachers and students in Imperial College, including teachers ' official rank, number, duty, morality as well as students' origin, number, treatment, manner; The fourth part dilates the Imperial College's teaching and management which include schoolwork, inspection, school discipline and familiarization exercise in Ming Dynasty; The fifth part narrates the sacrificial offering in Imperial College Confucian temple, emperor visiting Imperial College and activities of printing books. Finally, this article appraises the historical status of Imperial College in Ming Dynasty.
