In the west, the insertion of feminism into translation studies gives rise to feminist translation theory, which contributes to shaping new conceptual-political formulations and provides nourishment for traditional translation theories and practices. However, in China, there is no thorough and complete introduction of this theory. The academic circle of translation even sees no connection between feminism and translation studies. Against the background of globalization, it is of great necessity and importance to systematically introduce feminist translation theory into China. So this paper was made, on the one hand, for the sake of systemizing this theory and on the other hand, in the interest of inspiring its Chinese counterpart in certain ways and liberating in a way Chinese translation studies from its traditional situation.A brief presentation about feminist translation is dealt with in Chapter One Introduction.Chapter Two concentrates on the following aspects. A comprehensive view of translation history, theories and practices witnesses the fact that translation is described in gendered items, negatively related to women. To connect feminism with translation studies, the process through which translation is"feminized"must be investigated. It is the metaphorics of gender and translation that initiates the establishment of feminist translation theory. Analyzing, changing and even subverting the authorized association between gender and translation become the main purposes of feminist translation theory. So the main four chapters start with the widest issues of gender in translation. Translation is gendered, which provides a metaphorical framework for translation studies. Feminist translation theory comes out of the combination of feminist researches and translation studies. Any theory should have certain theoretical basis; any theory should indicate certain cognitive tendency rather than crown all flowing experiences; any theory should direct practice.
