Since the 20th century, the 1970s, in so far about 30 years, cross-cultural communication has been growing concern at home and scholars, with the development of the world economy and the growing number of transnational communication, the pragmatic failure in cross-cultural communication has attracted scholars highly valued.Jenny Thomas first proposed a text of the " pragmatic failure" of the concept in "cross-cultural pragmatic failure " (1983) In nearly 20 years of pragmatic failure, many scholars gave definitions in pragmatic failure from different angles.With integrating all statement of scholars, we can say : When people speak in language communication using symbols relations correct sentence, but said outdated or wrong way to speak, to express not customary. Specifically, words are not consciously violated interpersonal norms, social statute, or space-time, regardless of the identity of the parties to communicate, status, occasion, contrary to the purpose of language-specific cultural values so that acts of interruption or failure of communication, language communication obstacles, leading to the communication can not achieve the expected results or to perfect communication effectiveness, the nature of such mistakes when speaking with errors. This will be in English with Chinese common language between the English language cross-cultural communication as a language for use in research phenomenon, with 20 years of internal language used in cases with the research results will be used in language drawn into the wrong type of pragmatic failure.
