In the realm of modern Chinese poetry, Fei Ming has become a unique landscape because of his obscure and intricate poems which were deeply influenced by the traditional culture of Buddhism and Zen. Buddhism and Zen was rather an attitude to life and a pursuing height than a kind of knowledge for Fei Ming. As a poet, who had truthfully worked on the theories of Buddhism and Zen, Fei Ming was completely and profoundly affected by Buddhism and Zen. On one hand, Fei Ming conducted his literary imagination and poetic creation consciously to release misery of life and overpass the reality. On the other hand, after all, as he lived in the modern society with the confliction of Chinese and western culture, the real world caused him to dig the content of Buddhism and Zen and utilize it in the view of a modernist. These two elements brought forward the special interlacing of traditional and modern consciousness.The poetic imagination and creation filled with cultural connotation not only enriched the realm of 30's poetry but also left certain enlightenment of new poems. In this sense, this thesis sets Fei Ming in the background of his living time, tries to review the influences of Buddhism and Zen on him and discusses the inspirit resource and cultural value in his poems through comparing Fei Ming with the ancient poets as well as his contemporaries in order to gain the contemporary significance in a more broader view of Chinese new poems.The thesis is divided into five parts. The introduction will briefly discuss the researching actuality and significance of this paper. Chapter One will depict how the Buddhism and Zen is embodied in Fei Ming's Poems from the transfer of feelings to poems, the thinking manner of instinct realization and the unique image system. Chapter Two will analyze the complicated association between Buddhism and Zen consciousness and modern realization in the poems. Chapter Three focuses on the reasons of how Fei Ming's views on Buddhism and Zen was formed. The conclusion will comment on the peculiarity of Fei Ming's poems and point out their significances in modern poetry or even in new poems.
