With the musicality in English metrical verses as subject, this thesis, based on the theoretical and practical achievements by many scholars, is designed to study the relation between musicality and poetry and how to transmit musicality in translated texts. The thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter deals with the relation between musicality and poetry. They are homogeneous and interdependent. Musicality's high significance not only lies in its regulation over emotion in poetry, but also in its significance. The second chapter shows the ways musicality represents itself in poetry. There are two layers of its representation: one is the musicality of poetry's physical space produced mainly by sound, rhyme and rhythm; the other represents it in the mutual correspondence between poetry's physical space and its emotional space. The third chapter explores the translatability of musicality in poetry by comparing the similarities between Chinese poetry and English poetry in the following three aspects: 1, the similar poetical tradition between them two; 2, the similarities in terms of their rhymes and sound; 3, the emotion embodied in poetry is universal. The forth chapter discusses the limitation of musicality's transmission in two aspects: 1, the limitation of musicality performed by rhymes; 2, the one performed by rhythms. Then a conclusion is reached: a comparative translatability exists in the musicality of metrical verses although it may be pretty hard to transmit it.The fifth chapter is the main body of this thesis. Then the thesis moves to the specific ways in transmitting musicality in poetry: 1, Rhyme formats in a poet are too important to be neglected in translating it; the rhyme feet in a translated verse shall...
