"The Annotation of Shuowen Jiezi"written by Yucai Duan not only is the first work on the list of"Shuowen Studies", but also is a broad and profound outstanding work in the Chinese traditional linguistics history. It has obtained the gratifying achievements in each aspect of studies to Shuowen; among them the achievement on the study of Chinese language motivation is extremely remarkable. Mr.Duan inherits the essential method which Shuowen uses to illustrate the motivation. He also combines the language factor with the non-language factor to inspect the motivation.This article tries to classify, conclude and evaluate the interpretations of Chinese words'and character configurations'motivations in"The Annotation of Shuowen Jiezi".
