Incorrect sentences is a significant factor which influences quality of language usage. In virtue of linguistics and cognitive psychology, a new re-knowledge of incorrect sentences is proposed in the thesis, and analyses incorrect sentences from the point of view of what they are formed. Thereby, metacognition ability of language users is developed and fewer incorrect sentences are produced by metacognition and correction.Firstly, this thesis puts forward a new understanding of incorrect sentences. This is different from what we had in the past. Incorrect sentences are no longer regarded as total negative, with the exception of their hampering to communication to some extent. It could be the language innovation or the measures taken to achieve efficient communication. Three factors lead to incorrect sentences: poor language ability and relevant psychological ability, too much dependence on context, and mistakes in innovation. In fact, successful language innovation is used to be taken as incorrect sentences due to its difficulty to comprehend. Consequently, the existence of incorrect sentences is inevitable. On the other hand, we call for the improvement of linguistic ability of language user so as to reduce incorrect sentences. Therefore, we induct the concept of self-correction in virtue of the concept 'gate keeper' in communication theory.A comprehensive understanding to incorrect sentences is required. The existing understanding to incorrect sentences is inadequate: Firstly, we focus on incorrect sentences itself instead of the psychological character of language user when incorrect sentences come into being. Secondly, we analyze incorrect sentences from the point of view of what it turns out, instead of how to eliminate it. Thirdly, it is not feasible to insist that we should have enough knowledge of linguistics in correction. Fourthly, the existing correction method is simple, common sense, without scientific reasoning, and it is usually impotent both in teaching and communication practice. Therefore, a new understanding to incorrect sentences depending on linguistics is needed. Sentences are ruled by grammer, which provides the criterion to categorize incorrect sentences. Based on the comparison with language regulations this thesis analyzes and categorizes the characteristics of incorrect sentences. One of the characteristics of the incorrect sentences is that they break language regulations. The other is that they impede understanding (without the help of context). Therefore, two categories of incorrect sentences are formed. They are incorrect form and difficulty in understanding. By analyzing the incorrect form of sentences we in the end categorize the incorrect sentences into poor grammar, incorrect semantic and incorrect pragmatic sentences. (1) Poor grammar sentences: incomplete in structure, discordance between the structure formed and intend to manifest, nonstandard variation in structure; (2) Incorrect semantic sentences: misuse of vocabulary, logic confusion, wrong experience; (3) Incorrect pragmatic sentences: sentences without necessary information from context, sentences structure cannot be conformed to logic and psychology of listeners or readers.Self-correction is a concept derived from communication theory. Personnel working on the way of information transmitting, such as journalist, editor, program producer, are called 'gate keeper', who selects, accepts, rejects, stresses or abridges...
