Li Kaixian is a famous dramatist in Jiajing Period of Ming Dynasty, whose survived drama works are the two legends, Bao Jian Ji (The Magic Sword) and Duan Fa Ji (Cutting Off Her Hair), and the two Yuan-pens (a form of drama), Yuan Lin Wu Meng and Da Ya Chan. By using text analysis combined with stage performance, this thesis mainly studies Bao Jian Ji, the other three works being discussed as well. As an epoch-making legend, Bao Jian Ji takes the story of Lin Chong(a character in The Water Margin written by Shi Nai'an) as the subject matter, which is closely related with the historic age and experience of Li Kaixian. Many factors contribute to Bao Jian Ji Ye Ben's being put on stage and becoming a classic. Duan Fa Ji(Cutting off Her Hair) is deeply influenced by"Shengjiao Theory"(a theory of verbal instruction), while Yuan-pen describes people's inner-feelings through comedies. Although they are different, yet both are of great value.Besides, Li Kaixian's drama theory is evaluated in this thesis. By taking Li Kaixian's creating experience and relevant documents into consideration, the author thinks that Li Kaixian's drama theory includes his cognition of the following four aspects: characteristics of drama, evaluation criteria of drama creation, common drama conception, and social functions of drama. These concepts are of profound influence on the drama theories and creation in the Ming Dynasty.
