The thesis is intended to conduct a comprehensive study of Hong Liangji's poetry. His whole life was full of experiences of frustrations, but he, righteous and sociable, didn't lose his character. His poetic concept focuses on expressing his disposition and emphasizes on starting from a peculiar point, using unusual but reasonable methods to evaluate contemporary poets and poetic schools in order to make up for the deficiencies. Hong Liangji spent his whole in creating poems, from 13 years old on till his death at the age of 64 and leaving about 5,300 poems. In addition to the great number of poems and long period of creation, his poetic creation is also characterized by the different contents in different life periods and his creative techniques have also experienced a process of development. His creation can be divided into five periods: the period of supporting his mother, the period of acting as an assistant to different officers, the period of acting as an officer, the exiled period and the retired period, which outline his creative path. It is obviously not adequate to study his poems from only one perspective, and poems of different subjects are characterized by different artistic features and values. So in order to have a better grasp of his artistic style, the thesis studies his creative style from the perspective of the subjects chosen. Poems to reveal the peoples' life and eulogize history are full of majestic power and deep grieve, showing his concern for the country and the people; poems to express his ideals show both gloomy and vehement feelings, making use of indirect ways to express his deep concern and combing depressed feelings and vehement feelings together; poems to describe famous mountains and rivers start from a overall perspective to shape a figure with his own ideal by expressing ideas directly and making use of a peculiar style. His overall vehement and unique style is a genre distinct from other poets in the circle of poems in Qianjia Reign of Qing Dynasty. When it comes to the disadvantages, Hong Lingji's poems read simple and crude owing to the excessive introduction of discussion, leanings and articles into his poems.
