The ghost-or-soul image is a very special performing appearance in the creation of mankind arts, which exists widely in Literature Arts and also has profound predestined relationship with Chinese Traditional Opera and Western Drama .But up to now, we have not found any works which completely made a comparative study about the ghost-or-soul image in Chinese Traditional Opera and Western Drama from the angle of comparing the cultures. In view of this, this thesis tries to make a comprehensively comparative study about the feelings classification of the ghost-or-soul image in Chinese Traditional Opera and Western Drama and their modes of performing, and makes a tentative examine about their cultural differences, which based on clear understanding about the concept of Western and Chinese religion cultures. This study includes: the differences of beauty appreciating principle in Chinese Traditional Opera and Western Drama; the differences of religious concepts; the differences between the cultures of offense feeling and joy feeling; and the differences of the authors' creation psychology. The thesis also makes a theoretical analysis about the inevitable appearance of the ghost-or-soul image in Chinese Traditional Opera and Western Drama and prospects the return possibility of the ghost-or-soul image in contemporary Drama, Traditional Opera and Movie Arts.
