The Chinese feudalistic economy and culture reached its highest Peak in the Tang Dynasty, which witnessed the shifting of economic center from the Yellow River in the north to the Yangze River in the south gradually. There is much more academic research of the regional economic development of the Yangtze River valley and the South in the Tang, but it is comparatively weak to study the economic development of Wan-nan , a corner of the South..This text tries to do more comprehensive discussion on the economic development of Wan-nan Area in the Tang Dynasty on the whole. First, to analyze the terms of economic development of Wan-nan, including natural conditions , development of this district before the Tang Dynasty and social conditions. Second, to carry on certain exposition of development degree of the agriculture , handicraft industry , traffic , and commerce of Wan-nan Aera in Tang Dynasty. Third, to discussion the changes of the population and administrative division, culture develop, changes of custom and relation between economic development and ecological environment of this district. Finally, to do initial analysis on the economic status , imbalance of economic development , restriction factors of Wan-nan area of the Tang Dynasty. The overall conclusion is: The economy of Wan-nan area in the Tang Dynasty has development to no small extent no matter from the broadness or from the depth, which has played a quite important role in the course of shifting of economic center from the north to the south. On the basis of economic development, the social culture of this district has great development and progress too.
