The story of xuejiajiang is widely prevalent for it has been narrated through novels, traditional operas and oral literature for thousands of years. It should be researched deeply since it is the masterpiece of folk literature. This thesis includes three sections .The first chapter presents the prototypes of the story in base of historical materials, then reveals the popular conceptions about history through the comparison. The second chapter outlines the evolvement course of the story, analyzes its relevant social background and the movement of the topics: in the Song &Yuan dynasty, the story was curtailed and the topic was simple;in the Ming dynasty, the story was enriched and the topic became complex;in the Qing dynasty, the story was formalized as a series, and the topic was settled. The third chapter elaborates the cultural connotation of the story such as popular opinions about oyalism, utility, feminine etc. At last the conclusion points out that the story of xuejiajiang was attractive for masses, and should be regarded as an indispensable part of Chinese traditional culture.
