A Study On The Economic Modernization Of Kaifeng In Republic Of China

The Kaifeng's history is glorious. It once has been on the crest of feudal city in the natural economic period. In modern times, the old city Kaifeng started modernization reforming under the Chinese social transformation environment. But it was developing difficultly. It is a typical representative whose traditional urban development was stagnated. This paper takes Kaifeng urban economic modernization reforming as the research object, the Republic of China period as the main time interval, analyzing the background, the content, the characteristic and the conditional factor of Kaifeng urban economic modernize reforming.The paper is mainly divided into five parts:The first part: Background. The background mainly includes two parts: one is the developing situation of the region which Kaifeng city is in; the other is the developing situation before the time Kaifeng urban economic modernization reforming started.The second part: the development of the industry of Kaifeng. The modern industry of Kaifeng appeared late and the foundation was weak. Light industry was primary. The government operated factory by the local investment primarily, with chaotic management. The national industry developed in the Republic of China period, and occupied the main part of the industry in Kaifeng modern period. The urban handicraft existed massively and the distribution of it was widespread and dispersible. The adjustment in professions appeared, but the traditional handicraft industry still occupied the main status.The third part: the modernization reforming of Kaifeng commercial and financial industry. The long-distance trade appeared semi-colonial and semi-feudal. Local commercial block was specialized; with some big markets which had the modernized management appeared.
