Nanchang is a relatively stable society from year 1928 to year 1937, a period which is also the normal situation for population development. By analyzing the two variables: population structure and population quality, which can most embody the level of population modernization, the auther endeavours to explore the laws of population modernization of the traditional administration center cities during the course of modern transformation. From Nanchang's population structure (sex, age, occupation, education, native place) and population quality (physical stature, thought and ideology) during this period, the author draws the basic conclusion that ,during that period, there were some reasonable elements for Nanchang's population structure but it was not quite reasonable on the whole ,and that Nanchang's population quality had been improved to a certain extent, but remained in a relatively low level on the whole. The major reasons that caused these population phenomenona are that the outer impect on Nanchang since 1840's was not obvious, which lead to the less changeable elements itself. To be specific, the development of transportation was twisted due to related to politics, that the development of economy was not sound, that the excessively powerful government could not play a good role, and that ideology and thought tended to be conservative.By Comparing to Jiujiang and Changsha synchronically in terms of the above elements concerned, the former being the only treaty port city along the Yangtze River and the latter being the traditional administration center cityies in equal condition, we can draw the conclusion that the population modernization level of Nanchang is less reasonable and inferior to that of Jiujiang and Changsha.According to the above analysis, we can recognize modern and even contemporary Nanchang clearly. As an important provincial capital in the center of China, Nanchang's present situation is similar to that since 1840's. In order to further realize people's positive influence on sustainable economic development and embody the person-centered approach, the author also gives some personal opinions and suggestions.
