Utopia, by Thomas More(1478-1535)as a representative English humanist and writer of the European Renaissance, not only contributes greatly to the history of the Utopian Socialist thought, sets More's important status as"the originator of the Utopia Socialism", but also becomes an immortal work in the Utopia literature and the history of the world literature. It severely unveils the true face of his society, gives free rein to his thoughts about the happy life in the ideal country"Utopia", leaves a profound and far-reaching influence on the later Utopian literature, contributes to the delivery of his Utopian Socialism of which the importance and significance has wide claims throughout the history. Although there have, ever since this came into being, been abundant researches on this masterpiece, still, not a panoramic one yet, and especially the religious aspect has been largely overlooked or misinterpreted. This is particularly serious in this country, and as far as this is concerned, this thesis deals with the relationship between More's Utopia and the Bible so as to reveal More's Christian humanist thought and his religious ideas related to his other works unfamiliar to us readers in China.The preface of this thesis provides a general survey and also focuses on the relation between More and Christianity, and highlights the significance of this topic.The main text begins with detailed analyses of the influences on More from Christianity and its Scriptures, and shows the characteristics of his religious views reflected in his Humanistic ideas.
