Study Of Salt Policy Of The Five Dynasties

The salt is an essential thing that our humanity lives. But the salt is different from the grain; the common populace is impossible to produce. This characteristic causes production and expense of the salt is unable to unify. So, in order to obtain all the salty advantage to uphold the financial revenue, the feudal government interferes in production and transportation and sale of the salt. I choose the salt policy of Five Dynasties as object of study, and attempt to carry on systematic research to these problems , such as changing of salt producing area and system of transportation and sale , private salt, comparison of the salt policy of Five Dynasties and the later period Tang Dynasty, the south political power, Song Dynasty,etc. In order to enable the people to have a more thorough understanding to salt policy of Five Dynasties, I have used the experience of our predecessor to study the salt policy of Five Dynasties.This article can be divided into nine parts as follows:I. Introduction.I have narrated briefly salt policy of Five Dynasties, Moreover, defined two pairs of concepts, broad sense and the narrow sense the salt policy.II. The changing of salt producing area of Five Dynasties.I analyzed and compared the salt producing' area of the later period Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties, I summarize salt producing area of Five Dynasties not only the quantity reduces, but also the scale reduces than Tang Dynasty. And I have discussed some important salt producing area, which Five Dynasties only saves.III. The transportation and sale system of Five Dynasties and its characteristic.I have analyzed mode of transportation and sale of Five Dynasties, thought mode of transportation and sale are mainly by the government controlled, and strength of businessmen is extremely limited. The sale mode of Five Dynasties has three characteristics: First, different salt has different saleable area. Second, the naturally crystallized salt and the powder salt have different division in trading. Third, the powder salt has different division to the city and the village. Thus I think that the sale mode of Five Dynasties appears much systematic and rigor.IV.
