Perplexity And Exploration About Realism

Zang Kejia is a great figure in the history of Chinese modern poetry. He embodies the spirit of pressing close to reality and following the time for nearly 70 years of poem creation and therefore became a symbol of the realism in Chinese modern poetry. As a result, comment on Zang Kejia in the history of Chinese modern literature and poetry was always connected with realism. But because of ambiguity and puzzling of the concept "Realism" in literature studies especially in poetry studies the richness of Zang Kejia as a poet and his poems has been blurred. This thesis attempts to study Zang Kejia's poems before 1949 from the perspective of realism while not being restricted by the concept. Globally the thesis is divided into four parts: introduction, chapter One, chapter Two, and conclusion.The introduction gives a brief introduction about train of thought about the study.Chapter One is a sortation and an exploration about different theories on "Realism" and the "Realism in poetry". This part consists of two points: one is an analysis about ambiguous phenomena of "Realism" in practice and its reasons. Another is an investigation into different views on "Realism in poetry" in recent years.Chapter Two is the main part of the thesis. Investigating Zang Kejia's poems creation before 1949. It consists of four points.The first point analyzes influences from trend of thought outside literature and poetry that affected Zang Ke-jia in this period. Zang Kejia has been affected by the trend of thought in literature and poetry after he printed and published his first collection of poems, LaoYin, and has changed his spontaneous mentality of writing into conscious one.The second point explores the complexity of Zang Kejia's emotion in his poems. The dilemma and suffering, which is between dream and reality, as well as between individual and the society, was an important theme in Zang Kejia's poems before 1949.Point three is an exploration about stylistic complexity in Zang Kejia's poems. Contradictive images (icons) and negative way of expression is an outstanding feature of Zang Kejia's poems before 1949.The fourth point studies Zang Kejia's mode of thinking when creating poems. The complexity of his emotions and thoughts influences the development and evolution of the mode of thinking, writing skills and stylistic characteristics.The conclusion part makes further consideration about recent year evaluation on Zang Kejia in literature history, which is so-called "Phenomenon of Zang Kejia".
