The Transformation Of The Grammatical Functions Of The Descriptive Adjectives

This paper centres on studying the grammatical functions and the transformation of the grammatical functions of the descriptive adjectives and analyzes the semantic and pragmatic reasons for the deferent grammatical functions and the transformation of the grammatical functions of the defferent types of the descriptive adjectives.This theses finds all the descriptive adjectives of four types including AA construct,AABB construct,BA construct and ABB construct in the five adjective dictionaries,then searches the example sentences of these descriptive adjectives and describes their grammatical functions detailedly.This paper aims to describe more detailedly the relationship between the grammatical functions of the descriptive adjectives and their semantic meanings and to explain more effectively the semantic and the pragmatic reasons for the transformation of the grammatical functions of the descriptive adjectives.This article is devided into four parts.The first part introduces the other scholars'studies of the descriptive adjectives,counts the total numbers of the descriptive adjectives in the five adjective dictionaries and give the examples of the grammatical functions of the descriptive adjectives.The second part devides the descriptive adjectives into three types,including the descriptive adjectives with one main grammatical function,the descriptive adjectives with two main grammatical functions and the descriptive adjectives with three average grammatical functions.The third part analyzes the grammatical functions of four types of the descriptive adjectives with one main grammatical function of four types,including AA construct,AABB construct,BA construct and ABB construct,then concludes the semantic meanings of the defferent types of the descriptive adjectives.the last part summarizes the relationgship between the grammatical functions of the descriptive adjectives and their semantic meanings.
