The quantitative assessment of articulating function is an essential part of intervening speech difficulties in children by language education. Diadochokinesia rate (DR) is a part of the important content of the quantitative assessment of articulating function. The norm of one syllabic DR and three syllabic DR were developed by Prof. Huang Zhaoming of speech and hearing science department of east china normal university (ECNU).From the view of character of Putonghua, this research adds the norm of two syllabic DR at the base of one syllabic DR and three syllabic DR.DR was indicated as a function of age in Putonghua-speaking children. The difficulty of two syllabic DR is between which of the one syllabic DR and the three syllabic DR. The development of two syllabic DR is in direct proportion to maximum phonation time (MPT) and maximum counting ability (MCA), and in inverse proportion to F0.The practical applications of DR indicated that: First, DR can provide information of articulating function for diagnosis and assessment. Second, the training of relaxation, breath, pitch and articulation can improve the level of oro-motor skills and promote the corporate movement of phonetic organs such as lips, tongue and mandible. Finally, the key period of growth and Chinese language education are the two factors to affect the DR of two syllables.
